Few pleasures are as simple as hiking in nature. Hiking usually doesn’t require too much gear, always provides beautiful photo opportunities, and helps you de-stress. Maui has some of the most scenic hiking destinations in the United States and the world. Whether you live there or you’re visiting, here are some great sites for hikers. Just remember to bring plenty of water!
Pipiwai Trail
First on our list is a trail in Haleakalā National Park. It’s a decent length at four miles, so prepare accordingly. Enjoy your trek past a bamboo forest, a giant banyan tree and even a huge waterfall!

Keonehe’ehe’e Trail
Also known as Sliding Sands, this trail goes just over 11 miles through volcanic scenery at a rather high altitude. Because of the length, elevation and other factors, the trail calls for more experienced hikers. No dogs are allowed, and there’s a fee for entry, but the on-foot fee is far less expensive than vehicle fees. The trail goes from point A to point B, so consider this a 22 mile adventure if you go the full distance.
Hosmer Grove Trailhead
For the complete opposite experience as Keonehe’ehe’e, consider this option. Also called the Hosmer Grove Campground Trail, this is a brief loop just under half a mile. If you really like stopping and observing the vistas and wildlife, this might be a better option over the miles-long hauls.

Waihou Spring Trail
Another more casual hiking experience in Maui is the Waihou Spring Trail. This little adventure measures in at just under 2 miles without any mountainous elevation changes. One of the more popular trails, expect to see a few other hikers and sightseers making their way through as well.
